REPLICATION vs. DUPLICATION
Replication is the term used for true CD/DVD manufacturing in bulk quantities over 1,000 pieces. In this process, your data is taken from a glass master and stamped onto an injection molded disc. A shiny metal layer is included to reflect the laser beam that players use to read the data on your disc. This is sealed between two polycarbonate layers. Then, the top of the disc (opposite the data side) is printed using professional printing equipment. The product is a professionally manufactured CD or DVD like the ones you are accustomed to seeing in retail stores.
Duplication is the term used for producing CDs and DVDs using CD-R and DVD-R burning equipment. Generally, duplication is reserved for short runs (i.e. quantities under 1,000). When the discs are burned, they are printed using a full-color inkjet printer or other digital printing machine.
